All eyes were on the Teacher. It began to feel like we were all breathing as one. Like we had a single shared heartbeat as we focused on his face, waiting for him to speak.
Sermon on the Mount
New lenten series: Following The Teacher
“You’ve been following the wrong story. The way to peace can never be found through war. Shalom cannot be achieved through violence. The beloved community doesn’t come through power and privilege. It only comes through humble lives and hearts. I know this is a radical reorientation for you. But it really is The Way.”
In honor of Dr. King: pursuing the Beloved Community
Jesus’ unconditional love and respect for the inherent worth and dignity of every person, his prophetic ability to call out the systemic injustices of the socioeconomic and political norms of his time, and his absolute adherence to active nonviolence as the only way to confront the physical, emotional, and spiritual violence of fear-driven systems based on power and greed provide the essential model for the Beloved Community.
Offended at offensiveness
I'm tired of people being offended that others find their offensiveness so offensive.
“Attitude reflect leadership”
Jesus is stripping away all sense of personal privilege. He is revealing all the ways we think ourselves superior to others and places us all, no matter our station in life, on a level field with one another.
